WebAug 18, 2015 · I would imagine it's perfectly normal but it's another example of "CVT whine" and this time it happens at high RPM. When I get on the highway I like to accelerate from a dead stop to 60 by flooring it. Otherwise I drive very sedately. But the OB is quite a pig with the 2.5i and performance needs to be squeezed out of it.

One thing that I have noticed though is that there is a brief but pronounced whistle/whirling noise when the car is decelerating between around 10 mph to a complete stop. WebJust a tutorial....
WebJan 22, 2024 · The sound I'm concerned with is the high pitch whirring siren sound. I brought it in for that sound and they replaced the cvt. I didn't hear that sound at all during the first 1.5 years of ownership, so I got concerned. I never had a cvt either, but I feel like the cvt whine in others' videos sounds different than this one. These are normal temps as designed - the engine and CVT temps are intended to be about the same at full operating temps. WebJun 14, 2024 · Normal city driving would not cause it, but after awhile on the highway the whine would be there when accelerating, and also when I would turn the car back on after getting gas, or at lower speeds when accelerating, etc. - but only after longer drives on the highway. I had a CVT fluid/filter change at ~60,000 miles and it solved the problem.

The noise I hear is a lazy low frequency/low pitched whine more like a whirring coming from the lower right part of the engine compartment, the serpentine belt area. Its a chain, not belt, in these modern CVTs from Subaru these days, so not likely to be a break-in noise. I also notice this whine at low speeds, sounds like gear noise or something similarly mechanical; and I just rolled over 45,000 miles.
